Amy was caught up in the New Atheist Movement.

Growing up in the United Kingdom, everyone called themselves Christians, but that label seemed to mean so little. For her, faith was something antiquated and irrelevant in the modern age. It wasn’t that she wasn’t into spirituality at all, though. She loved to explore new age practices and Eastern spirituality, and she increasingly felt like she needed it.

Her marriage was falling apart. Her life felt like it was out of control. When she looked at herself in the mirror, she didn’t know the woman looking back at her. She tried every self-help program she could find, to no avail.

One day, she was reminded of fond memories of a youth group she attended at the Salvation Army as a child. She reached out to a church and got involved, which led to a moment of clarity: It was only when she was in the presence of God and His people that she had ever known peace.

Christ was actually the only REAL thing she had ever experienced!

She became a joyful follower of Jesus, passionately serving at her local church and filled with the Holy Spirit. In addition to the Sunday service, she discovered home groups. These small gatherings felt like family, as a small group of church members met in their homes, opened up scripture and challenged one another to put their faith into practice. It wasn’t about antiquated religion anymore. It was about finding out for themselves who God is, and learning to live that out.

They called it Discovery Bible Study, and her home group leader was pleased with how much it helped Amy grow. One day, she pulled Amy aside.

“Amy,” she said. “As you know, we try to follow the Bible’s recommendations for leadership in Ephesians 4. We want to have at least five people in our group who are responsible for empowering the others in the apostolic, prophetic, evangelistic, teaching, and pastoral giftings. I know you’ve only been a Christian for a little while, but I see and evangelistic gifting in you, and our group is in need of an evangelist. Will you take on that role for us?”

Amy was shocked. She wasn’t a seminarian. She had no theological background or training. Up until a couple of years ago, she was actively against the Church, much less experienced in building it up.

Still, Amy found joy in obeying the commands of Christ, even when they seemed challenging. She accepted the role and soon found herself coming alive as she organized monthly outreaches, and explored tools for ministry that would help people just like her experience Jesus.

She learned about the concept of a “person of peace,” and how God prepares some people especially to receive His message and pass it on to others. So she suggested to the pastor of her church to do something incredibly simple. Just put a link on the church’s website letting potential people of peace know that they can reach out if they’d like someone to meet with them for a Discovery Bible Study. The pastor liked the idea so they set it up.

Before long, Amy received a request to meet with someone who requested a meeting, and it turned out to be someone just like her! This young lady, too, had experienced a difficult childhood and long been skeptical of Christian faith. Now, Amy faced a new challenge. What could she possibly do with this young lady? That’s when she found out about Waha.

What she loved most about the app was its simple, reproducible format, and the expansive curriculum. She didn’t need to be a theologian in order to begin guiding this young lady to faith.

Since then, Amy feels confident to meet with people of peace and lead them through a journey of discovering God for themselves. Just like it was with her and many other skeptics, it has taken a little time, but she has seen God work deeply in peoples’ hearts. The young lady she meets with for discovery Bible study has begun to identify herself as a Christian, and is understanding who God made her to be more deeply every day.

Amy has even started discipling a second woman, who is making the same journey. She is hopeful that soon, new groups will start in her city and ripple out through her community and her nation. All because Christ captured her heart and showed her that she is the perfect person to join Him in His mission. Regardless of her past.
