Sanjay* lives in a country where most people worship Hindu idols. He even comes from a family of Hindus. His parents became believers of Jesus when he was little, and it was a big deal in their family. Sanjay’s aunt and uncle disapproved of his parents’ decision, but eventually, everyone agreed not to argue about religion. Sanjay grew up attending a church where he heard stories about men and women of faith helping those around them discover the love of Jesus, and he wanted to be like them. The only problem is, he didn’t know how. Whenever they visited his aunt and uncle’s house, Sanjay tried to share his faith with his cousin Rani*, but he never knew what to say.

While Sanjay was stressing out over how to share his faith with Rani, she was looking for a part time job before heading off to university. She had a lot of different interests, but she loved language. She was fluent in English and French and enjoyed conversing with people of all different cultures. So, she was excited to find a job translating for a bunch of foreigners who were visiting her country. The foreigners were a group of young people just like her, on holiday from their own studies. She applied and got the job!
Every week that summer, she found herself going to spend time with this group of foreign students. They were eager to let her show them around her home country, and enjoy local food and music. They were different from most of the other young people she knew. They were encouraging and thoughtful. They remembered and celebrated her birthday when few others did. When she arrived to work one day, she was upset because she had been in a fight with her boyfriend the previous evening. She was worried that her mood would affect her job translating for the students. But instead, they prayed for her.
One thing she noticed was that once every week—without fail—the foreign students met to read the Bible. But it wasn’t like any of the church services she had heard about from her parents. There was no preacher standing in front of the group telling everyone that they should change their culture. Instead, they used an app, called Waha, to listen to stories and ask each other simple questions about what those stories taught them, and how they could put what they learned into practice. Rani joined them for these Bible studies. She was a bit shy at first, but eventually started to open up. She loved learning about Jesus and the God He preached about, who seemed so much higher and more intimate than any of the gods she knew.
As she put into practice the things she learned from the stories of Jesus, she saw that things began to change in her life. When she dishonored her parents, a Bible story made her feel convicted so asked for their forgiveness. They were surprised at her humility and it drew her family closer together! The app, also encouraged everyone in the Bible study to share what they learned with someone else, so she excitedly began to share with friends and family. One week, she knew just the person she wanted to share with…
Sanjay had tried everything. He tried to be bold and share his personal story about how he came to make his parents’ faith his own, but his courage left him. He tried to explain who Jesus was and what He accomplished on the cross, but he wasn’t sure he could do so without forgetting important parts of the story. Dejected, he sat across from his cousin one night as she scrolled tiktok.
“Oh, by the way, do you ever read the Bible?” She said.
Sanjay almost fell out of his chair!
“Yeah,” Rani continued. “I’ve been reading the Bible on this app and it’s pretty cool. Do you wanna do it with me sometime?”
Sanjay couldn’t believe it. After years trying to figure out how to share his faith with his cousin, here she was asking him to share with her. Whatever this Waha app was, he was excited to download it and start meeting with Rani. At the time of posting this article, as far as we know, the two are continuing to meet and Rani is growing in her understanding of who Jesus is and what He did for her. As for Sanjay, he is feeling more bold to share his faith and make disciples, empowered with a simple tool to make it easy.
