These Refugees Found So Much More Than Just a Job

“In this city, almost every refugee is studying the Bible with Waha”

A certain city in the Arab gulf had become a landing place for refugees escaping conflict back home. Families poured in, but discovered there were no programs to support them. Unlike other countries, they couldn’t legally work. Many were left sitting in small flats, desperate and hopeless. They needed jobs and stability, but more than that, they longed for hope—something stronger than the chaos they had left behind.

For many, survival became everything. With no jobs and little food, spiritual hunger was drowned out by physical need. Most assumed God had forgotten them.

That’s when Miriam stepped in.

Miriam had been leading a small disciple making movement around the Middle East and North Africa. She and her small band of leaders began visiting families, sitting with them, opening the Waha app, and reading stories of Jesus in their heart language. As they prayed together, the families often asked for “manna from heaven” because there was no other way to live.

They didn’t just become curious about Jesus—they wanted Him immediately.

Within weeks, whole households were being baptized. Leaders gathered to strategize how to reach not only fellow refugees, but also the locals around them. When Miriam sought permission to use a local social club as a meeting space, the police chief himself—whose son was already a believer through her ministry—granted her full access, for free.

According to Miriam, it’s said that in this small city, if you meet a refugee on the street, there’s a high chance they are already in a Waha group reading the Bible.

A refugee crisis became the soil for revival!
