Ben is a great leader.
He had planted churches in the United States, and led a training program that had sent out successful missionaries to multiple nations. No matter what he was a part of, people had encouraging things to say about his leadership.
“He was like, an encouraging football coach in the Spirit!” said one of the students from his training program. “When I was around him, I always felt so inspired and full of vision.”
So, when Ben sensed a calling from God to move to one of the biggest metropolis’ in the world—London—everyone knew great things were to come. But, something strange happened. People in this new country didn’t respond the way people back in the States did. Ben was still wildly successful at personal evangelism and pastoral care. He had led many to the Lord and had become a beloved father-figure to many young men and women from the city. But, he could never seem to get these new believers to share their faith, or reach out to anyone else! Ben knew that if he couldn’t get many of these young people to become leaders just as great as himself, then his ministry would never go beyond his influence, and besides, he loved his new friends and wanted to see them become even greater than him.\
Ben threw himself into studying the Word, prayer, learning more about the culture and pouring himself out for each of these young people. What he found was that in this city, so many of the young people felt that an expert should be the one to do ministry, and they needed lots of permission to make disciples themselves. Eventually, Ben was feeling weary. It was time to go home for a brief furlough and get refreshed for the next season, but he was worried. It had taken so much to get some momentum with the people he had been discipling, so what was going to happen if he left for a few months? Would he lose all his momentum?
It’s okay, Ben, he felt the Lord say to his heart. I will still be with them, even if you are not.
So Ben allowed himself to come home, reconnect with family, and rest. But, before he left, he did a little research on some tools that could help his team continue to meet with the Lord while he was away. He found out about Waha, and it’s built in training, the Disciple Making Course. It was perfect because it was all about making disciples, but more importantly, a leader did not need to be present to conduct the training. You simply push play and the app does the rest.
“You guys can use this to continue our meetings until I get back, okay?”
Ben left to enjoy his holidays in the US. But he never expected to find what he sis when he returned to London.
“Ben!” One of the leaders squealed. “We started some discovery groups!”
It turns out that God really was moving as Ben was away. Not only did He use the Disciple Making Course to convince the young leaders that it wasn’t Biblical to rely on an expert to do all the ministry themselves, but He also ministered to their hearts, encouraging each one that they had what it takes. Now, Ben doesn’t worry about his ministry outpacing his own influence. There are people being discipled that he’s never met, all because one great leader multiplied himself into many great leaders.
