Evan had grown up in a Ukrainian house church network, where he saw his family’s faith lived out in living rooms every day. But when war came, everything familiar was stripped away. He soon found himself in Italy, as just another refugee child trying to fit into his new school.

He longed for peace and stability. But in his heart, he doubted himself. How could someone his age make any difference for his friends or family after all they had been through? At school, he met other refugee children who had the same fears and losses. He wanted to share his hope in Jesus with them, but he just kept thinking, “You’re just a kid. What can you do?”

Then he remembered the Waha app—how his family had used it in Ukraine to read Scripture in their heart language. It was simple enough for anyone, even a child, to use. He realized he didn’t need to be a pastor or an adult to help. He could start right where he was—with his classmates.

One day, during recess, he opened the app and gathered a few friends around. They listened to a story in Ukrainian and asked the questions together.

His friends loved it! Soon, they wanted more.

But this brought more worries. Would their parents allow it? Would they dismiss him as just a child? Instead, the children carried the stories home themselves. Their families began listening together. Before long, new groups formed in their living rooms!

Entire households came to faith through the boldness of a little boy who thought he couldn’t do much. His longing for peace was met—not through political means, but through seeing his new community filled with the peace of Christ.

What started with a schoolboy at recess became a budding movement of families discovering Jesus.

Now, when he asks, “What can a kid do?” the answer is clear: With God, far more than he ever imagined.
