Ben is an American church planting team leader in a large European city. He is a great leader and attracts many younger believers to excitedly follow a common vision. Over the years, his team has grown to become a sizable amount of people including Americans who have relocated to join him, and local believers. But being a great leader can have its challenges too.
Ben told us that he’s noticed that believers in his city seem to need a lot of “permission” to step out and share their faith. He’s great at doing that, but it also means things get challenging when he’s not around. This problem was probably on his mind recently, because it was time for him to return to the states for a 3 month sabbatical.
That’s when a colleague of Ben’s reached out to him about the Waha Disciple Making Course. As a free course that exists online and available for anyone to easily access and facilitate, it was the perfect tool for Ben. He could introduce it to his team and have them go through it while he was away. That way, the team wouldn’t lose too much of their zeal for reaching the city in his absence.
But when Ben returned to the Europe, his team wasn’t just maintaining their zeal, they were exploding with more passion for Jesus and the lost than ever before! Instead of needing a leader to give permission to step out and make disciples, Ben now says that “obedience is a more regular part of [their] vocabulary” and they’re stepping out in faith to engage and disciple the lost like never before, even starting some new groups!
