30 Groups Become 90 in Just 50 Days!

Wed Jun 25 2025

Nilo and Peter are pastors in the Philippines.

They loved their church and felt a deep burden for their people, but they were struggling.

In Nilo’s words, “church maintenance was killing me!” Making sure the facilities were well looked after. Making sure all the older church members felt listened to when they had an opinion about the music or the sermon. They knew there was something more. They wanted to be on mission with their people. Their heart was to see God bring revival to the Philippines through seeing unchurched and unreached brought into relationship with Jesus.

They had read several books on evangelism, church planting, and discipleship, but they were having a hard time getting their churches to actually implement making disciples. They found their church was comfortable with talking about disciple making, but very little action was taking place.

One day, a movement catalyst took them through the Waha Disciple Making Course. Since it was available online, he could take Nilo and Peter through the course over a zoom call, and they could replicate it to the rest of their church.

After going through the first few videos, they exclaimed, “We have to get this into our language immediately to use with our church!”

They started translating the course and after 7 days, they showed the first video to their church. They spent a whole day going through the training with their leaders and during this initial training, they started 30 house churches, simply by putting into practice what they were learning in the training! Then they rolled out the training to the rest of the church and the 30 groups multiplied to 60. A few weeks later, the 60 became 90. In total, all this happened in about 50 days! They were reaching the hardest to reach people on their island. One prostitute who came to know the Lord and join a house church said, “I never would have joined this group if a pastor was involved. Because of my old life, I didn’t feel like I could ever be involved with anything a pastor was involved with. I’m glad this group is for normal sinners like me.”

Church maintenance wasn’t killing Nilo and Peter anymore… Instead, they now deal with movement maintenance, which gives them life! In Nilo’s words:

“Our pastoral leadership team have become coaches. Our members are becoming ministers. And best of all, instead of talking about making disciples, we are actually making disciples”
