Happy Easter from all of us at Waha!

Since people all over the world remember the resurrection of Jesus today, we thought we would share 5 AMAZING implications of this extraordinary event. If you consider yourself someone who is spiritually curious, this is a great way to understand what all the fuss over Easter is about.

1. The resurrection means that Jesus is powerful.

But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.

Acts 2:24

We’ll start with the obvious. If a guy comes back from the dead, he’s a bit stronger than the body builders at your local gym. But his power is different from the kind you get from protein shakes. His is a spiritual power that changes things in the physical world. Jesus isn’t just some holy man who lives in his own spiritual reality. His power changes things in the physical reality where you and I live, where nothing is as strong as death… Or so we thought!

2. He isn’t the only one who will come back from the dead.

He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have supremacy.

Colossians 1:18b

When my son was born, I never called him “my firstborn.” He was an only child, so I just called him my son. It wasn’t until his little brother was born that I began calling him “my firstborn.” The fact that Jesus is firstborn from among the dead means there will be more to experience resurrection. That naturally leads us to ask, who?

3.  We get to come back to life, too!

For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

1 Corinthians 15:22

In the Bible, Adam was the first man. If you aren’t familiar with his story, he and his wife Eve pretty much had it made, until they decided to disobey God. When that happened, death entered the world. But here’s the catch: Adam’s name more or less means “mankind” in ancient Hebrew, so the implication of the story is clear. We’re all just like our grandfather Adam. That’s why it was such a big deal that Jesus was an actual living, breathing human, and not some unrelatable cosmic entity. The same way that Adam—a human—gave up eternal life for all of us, Jesus—a human—got it back for us!

4.  Jesus will come back for his disciples.

My father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told that I go there to prepare a place for you?

John 14:2

Shortly before his death and resurrection, Jesus was having dinner with the guys who were his first disciples. He had a lot of difficult things to say about how hard the next few days would be and they were all feeling a bit down because of it all. So, he comforted them by telling them that when he left, he would prepare a place for them in God’s house. When the time was right, he promised to return for them and all who would become his disciples.

Jesus’ resurrection means we can trust him to make good on that promise. The whole plan depended on him doing the impossible: Walking out of a tomb. And he did it! Because Jesus came back to life, we know that he will come back one day, and everyone who has become his disciple will live with him in his Father’s kingdom forever.

5. Jesus’ resurrection means we’ve got a job to do.

And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

Matthew 24:14

If all this sounds too good to be true, you’re in good company. A lot of people throughout history have longed for the day when Jesus would return to welcome his disciples into his kingdom with him. But why hasn’t he? What’s taking so long?

Jesus wants everyone to have a chance to live forever in a place where there is no death, no pain, and no tears. That’s why he’s waiting until everyone gets the opportunity to become a disciple too. His plan to make that happen is genius. He sent his Holy Spirit to help his disciples make more disciples, who also make more disciples. In this way, the number of disciples can keep multiplying until everyone gets a chance to receive Jesus’ resurrection promise.
